Move, play and perform freely and painlessly
Alexander Technique for artists
Tension, pain and stress?
As a performing artist, you know all too well how physical tension, pain and stress can thwart your artistic plans. Perhaps you’re experiencing it right now:
- tension in your neck, stiff shoulders, lower back pain?
- Or is it your arms and hands that you sometimes seem to lose control of?
- Is your voice letting you down?
- Or have you lost your balance and self-confidence on stage?
Move freely and painlessly
Your body is one with your mind. That is the fundamental principle behind the Alexander Technique, a powerful, educational method that is highly regarded internationally within the performing arts. Find out more about the Alexander Technique here.
You will gain the skills and insights that will help you not only now, but throughout your life, to carry out your creative and valuable work with less tension and pain, and with a calm and clear mind.
As an actor, how I relate to my body is central to my artistic practice. Any form of tension can hinder the flow of energy needed to perform convincingly. The Alexander Technique continually teaches me to explore this relationship with my body, enabling me to speak and move with freedom and strength. These lessons have been a real eye-opener, in my personal life as well. I practise them every day now.

Don't put it off
Don’t wait too long, because before you know it, you’ll find yourself in a vicious circle that’s hard to break out of. Your pain and tension cause you stress, and that stress in turn makes the pain worse.

Golden tips from the Alexander Technique for reducing pain, tension and stress both on and off stage
Hi, I’m Annelies Flamand.
I grew up in a family where music, and art in general, was synonymous with beauty, joy and enjoyment.
At the same time, I know that being creative also requires discipline. It’s hard work, especially in the professional world. It can take a toll on your body, as well as on your mind and emotions.
Come and find a quiet place in my Alexander Technique lessons.
I’d like to teach you something valuable, something that still helps me every day.
More over mij?
Annelies is kind and caring and yet enables and encourages me to take responsibility for my own growth and progress. Her subtle enthusiasm is contagious. She has given me a lot of food for thought on how to be more aware of my body and how I use it.
Anna, celliste
